Our family decided to meet up in Morocco with three of us flying out of JFK on Royal Air Morocco at 9 p.m on a Thursday. We wanted to have plenty of time for rollovers so we didn't miss our ZED flight that evening so we decided on spending the day in NYC.
Our stateside journey began with our college student son, Cole, starting out on a Wednesday night: DRO to DFW to CLT. He spent maybe 5 hours sleeping here in CLT and we all left on the LGA on the Thursday 8 am flight. Cole got automatic through passenger status since his layover was 12 hours or less so he was a few people above us on the standby list.
We chose to fly out of LGA because it was the first available NYC flight that day. The early bird gets the worm!
Once we got to LGA we decided to Uber to the 9/11 memorial. Uber is usually one of the most expensive NYC transportation choices but with airport construction and no direct metro connection (as of this writing) to the city made it a logical choice for us. We ate at Eataly, visited Wall Street and rode the metro to Time Square. Finally, we took the subway directly to JFK.
Pro tip: Wear a back pack weighing no more than 20 pounds (including your 'personal item') as your 'luggage' if you are flying out late in the evening. By not checking a bag, your flight plans can be completely flexible!
